Building codes continue to be more demanding and firestop system testing more rigorous. We have many programs to support your need for fire protection knowledge.

Online Training Opportunities

  • 3M™ e-Train Firestop Online Training
    3M™ e-Train Firestop Online Training

    A firestop system must be properly installed to be effective. To help achieve that goal, 3M developed e-Train, the Fire Protection Online Training Program. This comprehensive online program educates users on general firestopping information and trade-specific installation details. Users that review course content and pass a course assessment are eligible to become “3M Trained” in one of the following categories: Telecom and Data, Through Penetrations, Construction Joints or Flexible Wrap Systems. Users who take and pass a course assessment for the Overview module along with one or more of the following fire protection categories: Through Penetrations, Telecom & Data, Construction Joints or Flexible Wrap Systems are eligible to become “3M Trained”.

    NOTE: The etraining modules are not mobile compatible.

    3M™ and AEC Daily Online Continuing Education

    3M has partnered with AEC Daily to offer two programs for AIA and GBCI credits.

    3M™ On site Installer Training

    If you’re involved in the application of fire protection products into listed systems, you can't afford to be uninformed. This on site program educates installers on general firestopping information and trade-specific installation details. A result of this training is the installers get “3M Trained” wallet cards.

Training at 3M World Headquarters and 3M Fire Test Center

  • 3M™ Hands On Training
    3M™ Hands On Training

    This two-day workshop is conducted at 3M’s fire test center, which is qualified under UL and Intertek guidelines for UL's Client Test Data Program and Intertek's Satellite Laboratory Program. The workshop consists of lectures, classroom activities, and hands on installation of firestop systems. The participants are quizzed, and a final test is given to ensure the participants are learning the concepts. After completing the workshop the participant will:
     

    1. Understand compartmentation and containment and why it is important
    2. Understand basic firestopping nomenclature and terms
    3. Understand the testing requirements for a Firestop “Systems”
    4. Get experience installing various firestop systems incorporating 3M technologies/products

    The participants will receive a “3M Trained” certificate and card upon completion of the class. The class will also tour the 3M Innovation Center.

    3M™ Fire Industry Representative Education

    This three-day workshop is conducted at 3M’s fire-test center, which is qualified under UL and Intertek guidelines for UL's Client Test Data Program and Intertek's Satellite Laboratory Program. The workshop consists of lectures, classroom activities, and hands on installation of firestop systems. In this class you will receive a high level product training and sales training (Customer Focused Selling 101, Through and Membrane Penetrations 101, Construction Joints 101 , Flexible Wraps 101, etc).

    The participants are quizzed, and a final test is given to ensure the participants are learning the concepts. The participants will receive a “3M Trained” certificate and card upon completion of the class. A highlight of the class will be the visit to the 3M Innovation Center.
